The Great Northern Escape: Snez and Eddie Hit the Road for Fishing, Adventure, and Unforgettable Memories
As Snez and I prepare for another epic journey up north, excitement fills the air. With our trusty caravan and the Noosa Cat 2400 ‘Muffdiver’ in tow, we’re gearing up to explore some of Queensland’s best fishing spots and coastal towns. Our plan? To make unforgettable memories, catch some big ones, and soak in the beauty of spots like Stanage Bay, Clairview, Airlie Beach, Babinda, and Palm Cove. Here’s a glimpse of what’s ahead as we embark on this adventure.
First Stop: Stanage Bay – Remote and Rewarding
Stanage Bay holds a special allure for fishers. Known for its rugged landscape and pristine waters, it’s a remote destination but worth every kilometer. We’ll set up the van in the campgrounds and get the boat ready for some serious fishing. With species like red emperor, coral trout, and Spanish mackerel in the area, we’ll have plenty of targets—though we’re mindful of mackerel closures, as this period is vital for their conservation.
We’re looking forward to both the isolation and the fishing here. This remote spot offers a raw beauty and tranquility we don’t often find. For us, it’s a perfect place to start this journey.
Clairview – Ocean Views and Laid-back Vibes
From Stanage, we’re heading down to Clairview, a seaside village where the caravan park sits practically on the beach. It’s one of those places where the ocean is just a stone’s throw away, ideal for taking a breather between fishing sessions. The boat will stay docked as we enjoy the coastline, but the rods will stay out for a bit of shore fishing, too.
This stop is as much about relaxation as it is about fishing, giving us the chance to appreciate the simple pleasures of beach life.
Airlie Beach – Partying and Reef Adventures
No northern journey would be complete without Airlie Beach. It’s a lively town and the gateway to the Whitsundays, offering us a mix of adventure and fun. We’re planning to meet up with friends, take in the nightlife, and spend a day on the water around the Whitsundays. For this leg, fishing may take a backseat to the incredible scenery and social vibes, but we won’t pass up the chance to explore some secluded reefs if the weather’s right.
Babinda – The Quiet Beauty of the Rainforest
Leaving the beach behind, Babinda offers a whole new experience. Known for its lush rainforests and Babinda Boulders, this town brings us into nature’s heartland. It’s a place where we can slow down, reconnect with nature, and explore beyond the coastline. Snez and I plan to hike some trails, swim in the freshwater pools, and recharge before the next leg of our journey.
Palm Cove – Sun, Sand, and Final Memories
Our northern adventure wraps up at Palm Cove, a beautiful coastal town just north of Cairns. This spot has it all: palm-fringed beaches, warm water, and a laid-back vibe that’s hard to beat. With the boat ready to launch for one last fishing session, we’ll make the most of Palm Cove’s waters, hoping for a few more catches to close out the trip.
From early morning launches to sunset casts, we’ll savor every moment and look forward to capturing the beauty, challenges, and triumphs of this trip for friends, family, and followers.
As we prep our gear, double-check the caravan, and fuel up for the journey, we’re reminded that these trips are about so much more than the destinations. They’re a chance to experience nature, challenge ourselves, and make memories that last a lifetime. Here’s to another unforgettable adventure up north, filled with fish, friends, and the freedom of the open road.
